Hoops For Heroes is a registered
New Hampshire not-for-profit organization whose mission is to
pay tribute to Veterans by providing financial support to those that
have sacrificed for our nation, specifically by raising money for the
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
Here’s how it works: I, Dave Cummings, am attempting to make 1
million foul shots over the next two to three years, beginning on Veterans
Day 2009, and in exchange I am asking for donations, which will be forwarded
to the Fallen Heroes Fund.
For a more thorough description of the genesis of this idea, click
here and see a January 23, 2009 blog entry which includes a video recorded
on that date. Those were the early days, since which time we’ve
made a more formal connection with the Fallen Heroes Fund and have excitedly
received their acknowledgement. View the letter as a pdf.
We’ve also long since given up on the idea of doing this in the
driveway hoop and thereby being at the mercy of Mother Nature. We are
grateful to have been granted approval by the Epsom School District to
use the local gym, which will greatly increase the shooting percentage
and help us to attain the 1 million shot goal in a relatively reasonable
amount of time.
How much time? Good question. It could happen in two years (Veterans
Day 2011) at a rate of 1,370 made shots per day, every day. It could
happen in 1,000 days (August 7, 2012) at a rate of 1,000 made shots per
day, every day. However long it takes, at the core of all of this is
a daily tribute, a daily thank you, a daily affirmation of gratitude
that has been earned a million times over by the men and women who have
worn the uniform.
Please join me in the journey.
